Ondra-Huyett was awarded the PPL Lobby Renovations (Tower Building) project through a competitive RFP process for Construction Management Services. The project included the complete renovation of the existing auditorium, security area, service corridor, main lobby and waiting area, elevator lobbies on the first and second floors, conference dining rooms, cafeteria seating area, food serving areas, board room suite and conference class rooms.
The renovations included the demolition of all existing walls, ceilings, flooring as well as all mechanical, fire suppression, electrical, and low voltage systems. The new design incorporated upscale finishes, with acoustical wall panels, solid cherry millwork and doors, marble and granite flooring, detailed soffits, ceilings and light fixtures. Minimal lay down and material storage areas dictated that “just in time” delivery methods were utilized for all supplies and materials.
The project was completed in seven phases over 19 months and all work for this project was completed during normal business hours while the building was in full operation with over 1500 employees entering and exiting the building daily. Providing safe access and construction separation for all was paramount to the success of the project.
OHA’s team of project managers and superintendents worked closely with the PPL Facilities to control costs, provide the proper level of quality and ensure everyone’s safety during the build.
