Our teams provided construction management services for Martin’s 16,240 square foot Museum & Visitor’s Center project, including exterior renovations, museum space, a visitor center, retail shop and executive offices.
Construction started with the demolition of 4,300 square feet of existing facility. Once demolition was completed, an existing interior block wall was all that separated the production area from both the construction and the elements. With 10 production stations located literally inches from this block wall; insulating and completely sealing this block wall was critical for maintaining Martin Guitar’s rigid temperature and humidity requirements. During the entire construction process these work stations as well as the more than 700 craftspeople that work at this facility were never relocated or shut down.
The new two story facility includes a four zone hydronic heat system, 70 ton chiller, a complete BAS system that controls the entire HVAC system along with the security and card access systems throughout the building. Revisions to the electrical distribution was also a major component of this project including a new 2500 amp switchgear service, modifications to the existing 13,200 volt primary switchgear and relocation of the 22 main feeder circuits and the 1000 KVA transformer.
As you walk up to the building you will notice that the concrete entrance focuses on the “C.F. Martin & Co., Inc.“ logo inlaid into a decorative concrete “headstock” that is complete with several sections of the fingerboard that transitions through the entrance vestibule into the lobby where the floor has been designed to showcase a 21-times actual scale Dreadnought Guitar. You will also notice that the interior finishes are accented with five different wood species which are either currently used or which have been used in the manufacture of Martin Guitars.
Beyond the fine quality craftsmanship you’d expect to see in a Martin facility, we delivered cost control throughout the design phase, created smart schedules that were met, and ensured a smooth construction process in tune with the company’s elite standard of quality.
