In December of 2014, Ondra-Huyett entered into a GMP contract with Tierpoint for the renovation and construction of a new 17,000 square foot data center at their Valley Forge location. The project had an established “go live” date of May 28, 2015 which had to be met.

Ondra-Huyett worked closely with Tierpoint’s Engineers, Architect, municipality and the trade contractors in order to meet the aggressive schedule with data center construction commencing before the design was 100%.

Converting 17,000 square feet of underutilized basement storage area into a 175 watt per square foot data center was quite a challenge. In order to maximize the capital investment the project included extending the lower level of the building out five feet creating an areaway for supply and return ductwork from the three 160 Ton mass air cooling units located just past the exterior wall line. There was also an existing boiler room within the space which needed to have it’s 24 inch recessed floor infilled prior to any new work progressing.

17,000 sq. ft. of raised access floor was installed as well as new room finishes, new lighting and two Liebert 1100 KW UPS systems along with transformers and electrical distribution switchgear.

The project, including all testing and commissioning was delivered within the six month allotted time frame and was under budget, well below industry cost standards.
