The project was straightforward: Build a four-story extended stay hotel including 51 studios, 41 one-bedroom and 16 two-bedroom units, all equipped with guest kitchens, and access to an onsite laundry, fitness room, spa and swimming pool.  Challenges arose as we dug into the earth below the site of the 74,422 square foot structure. But, it didn’t stop our teams from finishing, on time, as contracted, and with complete confidence in the integrity of the wood structure.

The Staybridge Suites site was used prior for an oil recovery center, street and drive-in movie theater, warranting septic and storage tanks be remediated throughout. The decision to continue with construction through the winter required the additional excavation of soil, including shale imports to provide an accessible site. And exterior work meant scaffolding would need to be enclosed and heated in order to stay on schedule.

The greatest concern however, was the structure of the hotel building itself. Because it included an exceptionally large wood frame, all straps, hold downs, clamps, and other critical components had to be installed with the greatest precision. Our teams instituted an intensive program to check that every component was fitted properly and contained the appropriate number of fasteners before proceeding with hotel’s construction on the upper floors.
